Ramiro, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
Even when I’m the only one in the room who looks like me, I see that as an opportunity rather than a challenge. I’m also the only one who has lived my journey, and that perspective is something no one else can offer. My story, my background, and the way I see the world all become part of the work I bring forward.
In acting, that individuality is a gift. Every audition, every role, every set is a chance to channel those experiences into something authentic. Instead of blending in, I focus on standing out — not by trying to be different, but by being fully myself. I’ve learned that when you lead with your truth, people connect with it, and that’s where the real impact happens. We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ramiro Leal. Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m an actor and creator, and what excites me most about this path is the opportunity to tell stories that resonate. Acting allows me to step into different worlds and give life to characters that reflect pieces of the human experience. There’s nothing more fulfilling than knowing that a performance can make someone laugh, feel seen, or even shift the way they view their own story. For me, it’s not just about being on screen — it’s about the connection that happens when truth meets art.
Beyond acting, I’ve been building original projects and exploring new ways to tell stories, whether it’s through short-form series or creative collaborations. I’m passionate about creating work that blends entertainment with meaning, and I want audiences to feel something real every time they encounter my art. What’s ahead for me is more growth, more opportunities to collaborate, and ultimately, continuing to carve out space for myself in this industry while bringing others along with me.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, three qualities have really shaped my journey: resilience, adaptability, and authenticity. Resilience because this industry comes with a lot of “no’s,” and you have to keep going anyway. Adaptability because every project, set, and role is different, and being able to adjust quickly is what keeps you moving forward. And authenticity, because at the end of the day, people connect to what’s real — and your truth is your greatest strength as an actor and as a person.
For anyone just starting out, my advice is simple: focus on building those three things. Don’t be afraid of setbacks — they’re part of the process, and resilience is built each time you get back up. Stay flexible, stay open, and learn from every opportunity, big or small. And most importantly, lean into who you are. The industry doesn’t need another version of someone else; it needs your perspective, your story, and your voice.
How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
If I had ten years left, I’d pour everything into the work that matters most — powerful performances, bold projects I believe in, and building stories that outlive me. I’d prioritize roles that challenge me and produce projects that give voice to underrepresented perspectives, so my creative legacy is both honest and useful. At the same time I’d double down on discipline: training my craft, keeping my body and mind sharp, and treating each day on set like a chance to do something meaningful.
Outside of work, I’d invest in the people and relationships that ground me — family, close friends, collaborators — and create space to mentor the next wave of actors and creators. I’d travel for inspiration, support causes that matter, and make deliberate choices that leave the world a little better than I found it. Ultimately, it’s about making art with purpose, loving fiercely, and leaving behind work and people who carry that purpose forward.
